What red wine to pair with a cheese platter?

Lovers of red wine and cheese pairings are spoilt for choice. So to avoid getting lost in the aisles of your wine shop or supermarket, opt for a light, fruity red wine. Why? (This is the part where we give you the background information you need to impress your guests!)

Because a wine with too much tannin won’t go well with the fat of the cheese, and will accentuate the sensation of astringency on the palate and mask the flavors of the cheese. For example, a young Pinot Noir or Grenache will be perfect, with their very fruity aromas and light character. Cantal, bloomy-rind or ewe’s milk cheeses are its best friends. Why not try our Versant pinot noir?

Which white wine goes best with a cheese platter?

White wine on a cheese platter is a revelation! Believe us, you won’t be disappointed. Choose a dry, round white wine that will enhance the fullness of the cheese without weighing it down, while adding a nice freshness. Why not try a Chardonnay? With its fleshy aromas of honey, butter and hazelnuts, it will enhance a Comté, a mature goat’s cheese or a Bethmale.

Start the meal with your white wine and keep the same bottle for the cheese platter. We made you hungry, didn’t we? All our selection of white wines for your party cheeses are here.
