Bouteille Le Versant pinot noir

Chardonnay, Pinot noir: our best autumn wines

Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy wines that perfectly complement the comforting flavors of the season. We’ve selected two star varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to go perfectly with your autumn gourmet moments. Discover our recommendations.

A few words about Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a grape variety that expresses all its richness according to terroir and winemaking style. Indissociable from Burgundy and Champagne, Chardonnay also flourishes in Languedoc, with its warm climate.

It’s renowned for its elegance and ability to produce easy-to-match wines: round, full-bodied, with notes of hazelnut and a hint of butter. With age, aromas evolve towards mocha, roasted and toasted notes. The finest Chardonnays show a fine balance between fatness and acidity, with fine minerality and aromas of pineapple and citrus. But also more complex aromas of lime blossom, white fruit and a touch of butter.

In autumn, we particularly like Chardonnays with lightly woody notes and aromas of ripe fruit such as pear, apple or toasted hazelnut. These aromas, often enhanced by time spent in oak barrels, bring a roundness and complexity ideal for this season.

Wine and food pairing with Chardonnay

Autumn is the season for mushrooms and squash of all kinds. Pair your Chardonnay with pumpkin velouté, roast poultry with mushrooms, or a platter of mature cheeses such as Comté or Tomme du Jura.

Our selection: Le Versant Chardonnay

A few words about Pinot noir

Pinot noir is renowned for its finesse and delicate aromas of red fruits such as cherry, strawberry and raspberry, often accompanied by subtle notes of spice and undergrowth. This grape variety produces elegant, low-tannin wines, perfect for the autumn season when people start looking for smooth red wines. It remains a delicate grape variety, requiring special care in the vineyard because of its sensitivity to weather and disease.

Wine and food pairing with Pinot noir

Autumn is also the season for simmered dishes, roasted meats and root vegetables. Here are a few pairings that will bring out the best in a good Pinot Noir: a creamy mushroom risotto, a comforting dish par excellence, a duck breast with herbs and brown sauce, or roasted seasonal vegetables with spices such as parsnips, carrots or beets.

Our selection: Le Versant Pinot noir. Its red fruit nose and spicy cherry aromas make it an exceptional wine, perfect for this time of year.

Whether you’re a red or white wine enthusiast, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are essential grape varieties for your autumn dishes. Their versatility and aromatic richness are a perfect match for the season’s comforting dishes.
