5 tips for buying a good rosé

Rosé season is here! Even though rosé can now be enjoyed all year round, the first rays of sunshine call for aperitifs, terrace lunches and picnics with friends… accompanied by a good rosé! To help you, here are our 5 tips for buying a good rosé and delighting all your guests.

Don’t rely on price

One of the first misconceptions about wine is that expensive wine means good wine. But this is not true! Many parameters come into play to define the price of a wine: the reputation of the appellation, the reputation of the estate or brand, the work of the winemaker, the vintage… The same goes for rosés! You can easily find great nuggets for under €10! It’s all a question of taste.

Taking an interest in grape varieties

One of the best indicators of whether a rosé will be to your taste is the grape variety! You don’t need to be an expert to choose a bottle of rosé, just a few tips. If you prefer a light, fruity, round rosé, Grenache or Sauvignon Gris should be your first choice. If you prefer a more intense, tangy rosé, opt for a majority of syrah, cabernet-sauvignon or carignan.

Look at the color

Third tip: look at the color! If the grape varieties are not mentioned on the label, the color can give you valuable additional information. For example, a pale color doesn’t necessarily mean a light, low-tannin rosé. A light color means a rosé with a hint of red fruit and citrus, less concentrated than a darker rosé, which will be more complex, with several levels of aroma and a longer finish.

Check alcohol content

If, after all this advice, you’re still unsure about which rosé to buy, the alcohol content can help you decide. For an aperitif, choose a rosé with an alcohol content of 12°C or less. For a meal, a rosé around 13°C or 14°C will be just right!

A rosé for every occasion

We can’t stress enough that rosé is a wine in its own right, with its own vinification process. It can therefore be enjoyed in any season and on any occasion, as there are so many subtleties and nuances. You can find some very fine cuvées to match a meal with fine products, such as our Château Haut Gléon rosé 30% of which is aged in French oak barrels, giving it incomparable structure!

Now you’re ready to choose your bottle of rosé!
