Nissan Lez Enserune is a French commune in the Hérault department, close to Béziers. The village has just over 4,000 inhabitants, known as Nissanais. The village of Nissan nestles in the hills between the valleys of theOrb to the east and theAude to the west. Since Roman times, the Nissan Lez Enserune region has been steeped in vine-growing. Grapes can be found both on the plain and on the hillsides that dot the commune. Vineyard cultivation developed mainly at the end of the 19th century. Anecdotally, grape-growing also had an impact on the way this Languedoc village was built. Indeed, many of the houses in the village center have cellars and sheds that once housed wooden tuns and horses.

The Enserune oppidum is an ancient Gallic site near Nissan Lez Enserune. Perched on a hill, its silhouette is well known to tourists and Nissan residents alike. From the oppidum, you can enjoy views over Béziers and part of the Narbonne region. Occasionally, the medieval pond of Montady, with its remarkable star-shaped drainage system, comes into view.
The legend of the Ensérune oppidum over the centuries stems not only from its strategic position, but also from the trade that took place there with the Greeks and Etruscans.
The site has been open to the public since the 19th century, and excavations have brought to light many exceptional remains of houses, tools, ceramics and statues. The Ensérune oppidum is also home to a major necropolis, with numerous tombs and funerary objects.

The Nissan-Lez-Enserune vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate where hills and plains offer different types of cultivation for grapes. The wines produced here are very typical of sunny regions, with grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Nissan-Lez-Enserune’s vineyards are renowned for the diversity of their aromas, which can be explained by the many clay-limestone and schist soils. The wines produced are often AOP Languedoc, an appellation of growing renown in the wine industry in France and around the world. Numerous winemakers operate in the Nissan Lez Enserune region. Nearly 400 of them are members of the Vignobles Foncalieu cooperative.
The vineyards of Nissan Lez Enserune produce many high-quality wines, appreciated by all Languedoc wine lovers.
